We want to thank all of you for your generous donations for the Walk-a-Thon! Our class tied with the 1st grade as winners!! Way to go Kindergarten!! I know it gets harder towards the end of the school year to get to bed on time as the days get warmer. Please try to adhere to your schedule as the children benefit from this and we still have a lot of work to do at school. We do have a busy last month of school. Please double check the calendar to keep up to date! Thanks so much for all you do!! In addition, the last part of the year brings many exciting changes for your child. We have now learned all of our letter sounds and are going to continue to practice sounding words out (especially three letter words). They get excited when they attempt to sound out new words and are successful! Please continue to read with or to your child nightly, practice sight word lists and re-read the take home readers that come home weekly with your child. Nightly practice will continue to strengthen your child’s confidence and skills. We will continue to "test" their sight words every few weeks and results will be found in your child's Friday Folder. They should try to know all lists of sight words by the end of the school year. Congratulations to those students who already know most of their lists!! April 25 Walk-a-Thon May 7 We are starring in the Spring Concert at 7pm and the Art Show will take place in the cafeteria too. May 8 (Thursday) Kindergarten class participates in the 8:30am Mass May 9 Field Day May 13 Walk to Covedale Library May 16 Field Trip to Sunrock Farm Please be sure to continue to check your child's binder for important papers each night. We are beginning to sound out words with the short vowel sounds in them. Please have your child practice doing this at home as well. Please help encourage a love of reading by spending time reading together! You may want to put a bag on a bedroom doorknob and keep the stories we send home in there so you can read them often for practice. Even though they begin easy, the stories will get more difficult. The skills of repetition, matching pictures and words, and remembering to read left to right are all beginning reading skills that your child is gaining even if they are memorizing right now. A friendly reminder that as it gets colder to please put your child’s name in all sweaters, jackets and coats. Remember that all St. Teresa sweatshirts look alike! Thanks so much! :-) Mrs. Karen Miller Please check your child's planner/binder every night for important papers and sign or initial nightly. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us by note or e-mail. Please be sure your child has all of the school supplies that were requested for the year. It makes it a lot easier for everyone if each child is prepared each day. You can find the list of supplies from the link on the left hand side. I encourage you to practice number and letter recognition skills and read with/to your child for 10-15 minutes nightly.
